Person we met: Ms.Jyoti Pathania

About their work:
Chaitanya Mahila Mandal, a Pune based NGO was founded by Ms.Jyoti Pathania, a fully energetic and positive personality with the aim of collective activity for the benefit of society. She works for rehabilitation of women in general and red light area in particular. She runs a Vasati Gruha as well Palana ghar for their kids.

Working in this area is in itself is a challenge. She has very different set of problems which is not even realized in routine life. She has to put in lot of efforts in women rehabilitation programs.

Chantanya Mahila Mandal is working in the area from 1992. They have started KUTUMB SAKHI, a Family Counselling Centre and also  arranges Aware camps.

What will help?
Chaitanya Mahila Mandal needs some projects where these women can work with minimal training and she can actually make them independent. As per rules they cannot have a women in a center more than 3 years. So, the work should not involve too much skills required so that there will be no dependency.
Jyoti Tai takes trainings on Fashion designing. Also, she has stated a project to manufacture “Sanitary napkins” which is already started and in the last phase of packing design.

So for Sanitary napkins she might need help in marketing for her products.

Pencils from waste paper:
TFS have proposed her to start the project to manufacture pencils from waste paper. We have offered training for the same. Chaitanya Mahila Mandal is interested in doing this as minimal training required. Discussion has started and things are in pipeline.

Feedback on TFS:

She was happy with the event. Some of the people turned up and actually started discussion on helping her even after the event. But she could not follow-up due to time constraints. She said if these tie ups actually takes place then it will be a real and useful take away from the event.

It was a wonderful meeting and great experience visiting her office which is actually situated in Budhwar Peth red light area in Pune.

So, what do you think ?
